What are PEEP's and GEEP's

Personal Emergency Evacuation Plan

A PEEP, or Personal Emergency Evacuation Plan, is a customized ‘escape plan’ designed for individuals who may not be able to reach a safe location unaided during an emergency. These plans ensure that individuals have a clear path to safety while adhering to fall protection guidelines. 

Unlike a GEEP, a PEEP is specifically tailored to an individual’s needs to secure their safety during an emergency evacuation. This plan is created collaboratively with the individual to agree on the evacuation method and detail the escape routes. Additionally, the PEEP will identify the individuals who will assist in the evacuation and outline relevant training requirements.

Similar to a GEEP, the PEEP should be regularly tested to keep all staff familiar with the procedure, ensuring they have appropriate training and knowledge of the building’s layout and fall protection equipment. The PEEP should be distributed to all involved parties and filed as necessary.

General Emergency Evacuation Plan

A General Emergency Evacuation Plan (GEEP) outlines a building’s layout, evacuation procedures, equipment, and communication devices used during emergencies. While GEEPs are beneficial for all visitors, they are particularly aimed at assisting those with restricted mobility or those who cannot evacuate independently. This ensures that they have the necessary information to evacuate safely and effectively.

In a public building, a GEEP must be prominently displayed for all visitors. Important details, such as evacuation procedures and fall protection notices for those needing assistance, should be clearly visible. Regular drills and an effective testing system are crucial to confirm that all staff are aware of the procedures and are adequately trained in the building’s layout and emergency equipment.
